Words Unsaid

Thought of finally saying out how he really felt,
What never came out, what shouldn’t wait.
Someone intervened before he could assert,
Too late. He was too late.

Take it back, if he could,
Transform his hesitations to resolve, he would.
The caution was where he went wrong,
Worrying about the consequences, he lost it all.

So now he watches from the by-lines,
Something he’s used to, something he wouldn’t mind..
But now he wants a lot more,
‘cos without her in it, his life’s sore..

He sees her still,
But now she’s just a friend.
Without a hope, he now silently waits,
‘cos he was late. He was simply too late.
